Oops I did Again, in Latin:Oops id Egi Iterum
Salvete(hello-in Latin) Internetgoers, I decided to translate the Britney Spears song Ooops I did it again into Latin, a version of which you may have seen on Dyany.com. Why did I do this you may ask, oh well to quote Yoda "There is no why, clear your mind of questions". This translation was rather challenging and I often have found errors in it, so hopefully it won't be too bad. I can keep looking at it to try to improve it. Oh and I should note that some things in Latin aren't exactly the same as in English so I tried to translate this song as closely as the grammar and my abilities will allow. To let you see a little more of what I mean about it being slightly different in grammar and things I have decided to give the actual English Lyrics from a lyrics site I found which I believe is lyrics.com (anyway, you can get to it from that link), then give my Latin translation then give a translation of my Latin translation, so you can see how it compares to the original. So without further ado here it is:
Oops I did it Again:
Oops Id Egi Iterum:
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Sic Sic Sic Sic Sic Sic
Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah Yeah
Sic Sic Sic Sic Sic Sic
I think I did it again
Puto me id egisse iterum
I made you believe we're more than just friends
Feci tibi credere nos plus solos amicos esse
Oh baby
O Infans
It might seem like a crush
Id vel videtur similis dementia
But it doesn't mean that I'm serious
Sed hic non significat me esse gravem
'Cause to lose all my senses
Quod amittere omnes meos sensus
That is just so typically me
Ille prorsus est solitus mei
Oh baby, baby
O Infans, Infans
[Chorus:]
Oops!... I did it again
Oops!...Id egi iterum
I played with your heart, got lost in the game
Lusi cum tuo corde, amissa sum in ludo
On baby, baby
O infans, infans
Oops!...You think I'm in love
Oops!... Putas me in amore esse
that I'm sent from above
Esse missam desuper
I'm not that innocent
Non sum innocentissima
You see my problem is this
Vide, mea difficultas est haec
I'm dreaming away
Ego sole somnio
Wishing that heroes, they truly exist
Vollo heroes, vere esse
I cry, watching the days
Fleo, dum video dies
Can't you see I'm a a fool in so many ways
Potesne videre me esse stultum in tot modis
But to lose all my senses
Sed amittere omnes meos sensus
That is just so typically me
Ille prorsus est solitus mei
Baby, oh
Infans, o
[repeat chorus and yeah part]
"All aboard"
"Omnes conscendete"
"Brittany, before you go there is something I want you to have"
"Brittania, ante is, desidero te quidam habere"
"Oh, it's beautiful, but wait a minute, isn't this...?"
"O, est pulchrum, sed exspecto parve, nonne est hac...?"
"Yeah, yes it is"
"Ita, ita est"
"But I thought the old lady dropped it into the ocean in the end" "
"Sed putavi anum id in oceanum in fine iecisse."
"Well baby, I went down and got it for you"
"Infans, ivi deorsum et id cepi tibi"
"Oh you shouldn't have"
"O, tu egisse non debes"
Oops!... I did it again to your heart
Oops!...Id egi iterum cordi tui
Got lost in this game, oh baby
Amissa sum in hoc ludo, o infans
Oops!... You think that I'm sent from above
Oops!...Tu putas me desuper missam esse
I'm not that innocent
Non sum innocentissima
[repeat chorus]
[repeat chorus]
Oops I did it again: a more literal translation from the latin along with translational notes):
thus thus thus thus thus thus
thus thus thus thus thus thus(there is no Latin exact equivalent to yeah)
I think that I have done it again(you could actually say "did it again" but I translated with the "have" to more clearly indicate the perfect tense-which I will continue to do throughout this translation)
I have made you believe that we are more than only friends
Oh Baby
It perhaps seems like madness(a crush is an English idiom that my Latin dictionary approximated as this)
But this does not indicate that I am serious
because to lose all my senses
That is absolutely customary of me
Oh baby, baby(In Latin Infans meant more in the way of infant than the way English speakers now use the term "baby" -perhaps the meaning of our baby would be better conveyed by the Latin "carus"-meaning dear, but I stuck with the literal baby for this translation)
[Chorus:](Just a fun fact chorus is the same in Latin and English)
Oops!... I have done it again
I have played with your heart, I have been lost in the game
O baby, baby
Oops you think that I am in love
that I have been sent from above
I am not very innocent
Look, my difficulty is this
I am only dreaming (Dreaming away is an english idiom that I tried to approximate)
I am wishing(the subject is included in Latin finite indicative verbs, but one could use an ellipse as Brittney does and translate it as "wishing") that heroes truly exist(or are)
I cry, while I watch the days(the same meaning as the song but worded a little different)
Are you able to see that I am a fool in so many ways
But to lose all my senses
That is absolutely customary of me
Baby, oh
[Chorus followed by yeah part]
"All Mount"
"Brittany, before you go, I desire that you have something"
"Oh, it is beautiful, but wait for a little, Isn't this..?
"Thus, so(Ita means thus and so) it is"
"But I thought that the old lady had thrown it into the ocean in the end"
"(I wasn't sure how to translate this well so I left it out, it's not very important for overall meaning) Baby, I went down and captured it for you"
"O you ought not to have"
Oops I have done it again to your heart.
I have been lost in this game, o baby
Oops You think that I have been sent from above
I'm not very innocent
[repeat chorus]
