With or Without you in Latin: Cum aut Sine te
Ever since I was a kid in high school Latin(about 9 years ago!) I dreamed of translating this song into Latin. I have recently accomplished that goal, and now with my high school Latin t-shirt on, and the translation in my hand I think I'm ready to inflict my dream on the world(mean, huh?). This song by U2 from the album Joshua Tree is one which I really enjoy. It was also the easiest translation so far, with fairly simple grammar and numerous repitition. Anyway I guess I will just continue in the same way that I have done translations in the past.
With or Without You:
Cum aut Sine te
See the stone set in your eyes
Video lapem positum in tuis oculis
See the thorn twist in your side
Video spinam tortam in tuo latere
I wait for you
Ego exspecto tibi
Slight of hand and twist of fate
Praestigiae et torquens fatum
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
In lecto clavorum ea me exspectare facit
and I wait withou you
et exspecto sine te
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
Through the storm we reach the shore
Per tempestatem ad litum advenit
You give it all but I want more
Tu das omnia, sed desidero magis
and I'm waiting for you
et exspecto tibi
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
I can't live
non vivere possum
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
And you give yourself away
et tu das te ab
And you give yourself away
et tu das te ab
And you give
et tu das
And you give
et tu das
And you give yourself away
et tu das te ab
My hands are tied
Meae manus nexae sunt
My body bruised she's got me with
Meum corpus contusum, ea habet me cum
Nothing to win and
Nihil obtinere et
Nothing left to lose
Nihil manens amittere
And you give yourself away
et tu das te ab
And you give yourself away
et tu das te ab
And you give
et tu das
And you give
et tu das
And you give yourself away
et tu das te ab
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
I can't live
non vivere possum
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
I can't live
non vivere possum
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
With or wthout you
Cum aut sine te
A more literal translation with translational notes:
I see the in placed in your eyes
I see the thorn twisted in your side
I wait for you(Ego put in for emphases on I-grammatically unimportant)
Sleight of hand(one word in Latin) and twisting fate
On a bed of nails she makes me wait
And I wait without you
With or without you
With or without you
Through the storm we come toward the shore
You give all things(neuter plural of all), but I desire more
and I'm waiting for you(I wait and I am waiting are the same in Latin)
(to avoid needless repition all just call the following part the "with or without you part" so you will know that means two "with or without you"s followed by an "I can't live" followed by another "with or without you")
With or without you
With or withou you
I am not able to live
With or without you
(likewise the following arrangement will be called the "and you give part")
And you give yorself away
And you give yourself away
And you give
And you give
And you give yourself away
My hands have been tied
My body bruised, She has me with
Nothing to win and
Nothing left to lose
["and you give" part]
["with or without you" part]
["with or without you" part]
With or without you
